ABOUT ME
THE SERIOUS BIT:
I hold a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing, a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and an MRes in Children’s Literature. Currently, I work as an English teacher and Whole School Literacy Lead in a secondary school in Swindon.
At heart, I’m a children’s author though I also dabble in short stories and poetry. My writing could be described (I hope) as witty, thoughtful and engaging. I’m particularly fascinated in the boundaries between fact and fiction. I’ve just finished my first novel, The Great Emu War, and am in the process of seeking agent representation.
You can find my writing in Lighten Up Online, The First Line Journal, The Beautiful Space, Balloons Literary Journal. I was also awarded second prize in the inaugural First Lines Competition for my children’s story Harper Holloway and the Disappearance of Arabella Sent.
THE NOT-SO-SERIOUS BIT:
I’m a big kid – twenty-nine going on twelve. I like making up silly songs and poems. If I’m not making an absolute racket somewhere, you should be very suspicious. I’m an embarrassing cat mum. Don’t let me drink too much coffee… you’ll regret it.
JUST IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING:
Outside of writing, I’m not a one-trick pony. I sing in a jazz band (Jazz Friday), cook up a keto-storm in the kitchen (kristyjayketo) and try my hand at a variety of things including embroidery, watercolour painting and vegetable growing (not so good at the last one, admittedly!). I’m always up to something or other.
